Yoga Therapy for Fibromyalgia

Yoga Therapy for Fibromyalgia

6 Hours | 3 Sessions

With Montserrat G. Mukherjee C-IAYT

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterised by widespread pain and tenderness, often manifesting unpredictably across the body. Accompanied by symptoms such as fatigue, tension headaches, IBS, sleep disturbances, and links to anxiety and depression, Fibromyalgia primarily affects women (80-96%). While traditionally considered a musculoskeletal disorder, recent insights point towards the nervous system, specifically the interaction between pain receptors and the brain.

The complexity of Fibromyalgia, which can present alongside other physical and psychological health issues, makes diagnosis challenging. It’s often identified through a process of elimination, as there are no definitive tests like blood screenings or X-rays to confirm its presence.

Yoga Therapy offers a very promising approach for managing Fibromyalgia, especially given the limited medication options, which are generally limited to painkillers and antidepressants. As a tool for neuroregulation, Yoga Therapy can be highly effective. However, due to the high sensitivity to pain in Fibromyalgia clients, certain practices must be approached with caution to avoid overexertion and potential relapse.
