Our curriculum

During our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, the main style of yoga taught is based on Hatha Yoga, providing an in-depth exploration of each pose and establishing a strong foundation for appropriate yoga practice and teaching. In addition, we introduce and delve into various styles, including Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Viniyoga, Pre- and Post-natal Yoga, and Restorative Yoga.

Our curriculum consists of three modules, each carefully designed to provide you with a comprehensive and practical understanding of fundamental subjects in yoga teaching. Our team of highly dedicated and experienced faculty members instructs all subjects with utmost expertise.

The three modules are:

MODULE 1 | FOUNDATIONS

We will explore the anatomy and biomechanics of movement, and study of the key body systems as it relates to the practice of yoga. We will discover how the body works (with a particular focus on the musculoskeletal system, the respiratory system and the nervous system) and apply this important knowledge to teach safely and consciously.

You will gain an understanding of the history and philosophy of yoga, and learn about the roots of yoga and how it has branched into where it is now. Key yogic texts, such as the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Vedas and the Upanishads will be explored. We will discuss the moral and ethical principles and dilemmas related to teaching an ancient practice in a modern society.

MODULE 2 | TEACHING

Learn how to structure and sequence yoga classes based on the five principles of TYTI: Respect, Knowledge, Safety, Compassion, and Trauma-Informed. Emphasis is placed on giving you the techniques and skills to teach students of differing abilities and needs, and how to adapt practices and poses. You will learn about classroom management, communication, cueing and adjustments.

During the training there will be ample opportunities to deepen your own practice (in asana, pranayama, and meditation). You will be supported in developing a daily yoga practice. And you will also get to integrate and demonstrate your learnings, through asana (posture) workshops, micro-lessons, and a final teaching exam.

MODULE 3 | EXPLORING

This training will show you the many different routes you can take to share your understanding and knowledge of yoga with others. A career in yoga teaching will look different for everyone. You will discover ways of how you can make a viable income with yoga, as well as marketing skills. The importance of scope of practice and professionalism will also be discussed.

Additional workshops will be given on a variety of topics, including an Introduction to Ayurveda, how to modify yoga for Pregnancy and the fundamentals of Yoga Therapy. These sessions will provide an insight into how to work with different audiences, as well as possible areas of interest and niches that you could specialize or train further in.

While classes are conducted in English, our faculty is multilingual, and we welcome students from around the world to join us.

A specific methodology will be provided to guide you in instructing yoga classes effectively. Additionally, you’ll participate in a workshop to improve your elevator pitch, aiding job applications and self-marketing as a yoga teacher.

Our training is built upon Hatha Yoga principles, but with an emphasis on individualising poses to fit the person rather than the other way around. We explore numerous variations and discuss the benefits and contraindications for each pose. Additionally, we incorporate elements from other yoga styles including Vinyasa and Restorative Yoga.

You will learn how to teach Hatha Yoga classes and gentle Flow Yoga classes, all through a Trauma-Informed perspective. These are some of the most upcoming and popular styles in today’s modern world. You will also be introduced to the key concepts of Restorative Yoga, adapting yoga for pregnancy, leading yoga classes for the older population, and Yoga Therapy.

No, completing this training solely online is not possible. In-person participation is essential for teaching yoga in a trauma-informed and intelligent manner. We deeply explore individual body variations, facial expressions, breathing patterns, and the importance of correct hands-on assists. The Yoga Therapy Institute firmly believes in the value of in-person training, which sets you apart as a highly capable yoga teacher. Additionally, note that many yoga studios do not hire teachers with fully online training.
