EXCELLENT TRAINING METHODOLOGY. Our educational and interactive training techniques will guarantee that you walk away with lifelong tools on how to develop your own yoga practice, and also safely and confidently teach yoga to others.

SMALL-SCALE GROUPS. There is a maximum of 12 students per training, thereby ensuring you receive plenty of attention to your personal practice and also have the ability to develop yourself as a unique and authentic yoga teacher.

Our curriculum

During our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, the two main styles of yoga taught are based on Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga. Hatha Yoga provides an in-depth exploration of each pose and establishing a strong foundation for appropriate yoga practice and teaching. Vinyasa Yoga allows you to become creative and intentional in your practice and sequencing.

While classes are conducted in English, our faculty is multilingual, and we welcome students from around the world to join us.

Over 22 days you will explore a vast range of topics, ensuring you will be a confident Yoga Teacher by the end of the training The training consists of three weeks:

WEEK 1

We will explore the anatomy and biomechanics of movement, and study of the key body systems as it relates to the practice of yoga. We will discover how the body works (with a particular focus on the musculoskeletal system, the respiratory system and the nervous system) and apply this important knowledge to teach safely and consciously.

You will gain an understanding of the history and philosophy of yoga, and learn about the roots of yoga and how it has branched into where it is now. Key yogic texts, such as the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Vedas and the Upanishads will be explored. We will discuss the moral and ethical principles and dilemmas related to teaching an ancient practice in a modern society.

WEEK 2

Learn how to structure and sequence yoga classes based on the five principles of TYTI: Respect, Knowledge, Safety, Compassion, and Trauma-Informed. Emphasis is placed on giving you the techniques and skills to teach students of differing abilities and needs, and how to adapt practices and poses. You will learn about classroom management, communication, cueing and adjustments.

During the training there will be ample opportunities to deepen your own practice (in asana, pranayama, and meditation). You will be supported in developing a daily yoga practice. And you will also get to integrate and demonstrate your learnings, through asana (posture) workshops, micro-lessons, and a final teaching exam.

WEEK 3

This training will show you the many different routes you can take to share your understanding and knowledge of yoga with others. A career in yoga teaching will look different for everyone. You will discover ways of how you can make a viable income with yoga, as well as marketing skills. The importance of scope of practice and professionalism will also be discussed.

Additional workshops will be given on a variety of topics, including an Introduction to Ayurveda, how to modify yoga for Pregnancy and the fundamentals of Yoga Therapy. These sessions will provide an insight into how to work with different audiences, as well as possible areas of interest and niches that you could specialize or train further in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Starting the journey to become a yoga teacher is exciting, and sometimes a little bit scary! If you have a love for yoga, and a desire to know more about it, then a Yoga Teacher Training can be a great way to learn. In this Yoga Teacher Training, we place extra emphasis on supporting your personal practice, and also teaching you how to lead a class in a confident and authentic manner. You’ll learn about yoga poses (asana), but also breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation. You will gain a deeper understanding of yoga philosophy, through exploring key historical texts through a contemporary lens. And what is unique about our Yoga Teacher Training is that all of our classes incorporate a therapeutic and trauma-informed approach.

Yes, we are a Yoga Alliance certified training (RYS200).

We require applicants to have a dedicated yoga practice of at least one year (or 5 classes) prior to starting their 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. It is not necessary to be able to do ‘advanced’ asanas (poses), but a familiarity with a variety of asanas, and some experience as a student in a yoga class is ideal. The purpose of the training is to refine your practice and also show you how to teach or share yoga with others in a safe and confident manner. During the training we will certainly explore a few challenging poses, but the goal will be to understand the pose, and not perform the pose!

By the end of this training you will be able to comfortably and confidently teach hatha and Vinyasa Yoga. We explore yoga through the idea of ‘the pose is made to fit the person, rather than the person is made to fit the pose’. We look at endless variations, and also explore benefits and contraindications for each pose. You will also learn how to teach Pranayama (breathing) techniques.

No, completing this training solely online is not possible. In-person participation is essential for teaching yoga in a trauma-informed and intelligent manner. We deeply explore individual body variations, facial expressions, breathing patterns, and the importance of correct hands-on assists. The Yoga Therapy Institute firmly believes in the value of in-person training, which sets you apart as a highly capable yoga teacher. Additionally, note that many yoga studios do not hire teachers with fully online training.

Our Yoga Teacher Training takes place at La Roane Yoga Center in Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val, South of France. The centre, with over 20 years of experience, offers a spacious and well-equipped yoga studio, a sauna, a cosy living room for evening discussions, and a serene forest for reflection. Accommodations include tidy bedrooms with double beds in private rooms or single beds in shared rooms. The centre is conveniently located an hour’s drive from Toulouse Airport, with transfer services available (free of charge). Caussade train station is also nearby, with free pick-up/drop-off. Parking spaces are available for those arriving by car.

You will learn how to teach Hatha Yoga classes and gentle Flow Yoga classes, all through a Trauma-Informed perspective. These are some of the most upcoming and popular styles in today’s modern world. You will also be introduced to the key concepts of Restorative Yoga, adapting yoga for pregnancy, leading yoga classes for the older population, and Yoga Therapy.

Payment plans are available depending on your situation, as our intention is to make this training accessible for all. Please contact Manouk ([email protected]) if you require further assistance or information.

Please refer to our terms and conditions regarding payments here: https://theyogatherapyinstitute.org/participation-terms/
