Liese van Dam
Ayurveda & Yoga Teacher
Liese van Dam originally trained as a Sivananda Yoga teacher and had a deep dive in asana, pranayama and yoga philosophy during a four year stay in Sivananda ashrams around the world. Once she returned to the Netherlands, her journey with yoga evolved further through learning how to teach yoga for women with Dr François Barbara Freedman. She is trained at Birthlight in pre- and postnatal Yoga, baby Yoga and Well-Woman therapeutic Yoga.
After intensely practicing and teaching in various countries across the globe, she settled back into the Netherlands. By this time, Liese had experienced the powerful effect of combining yoga and Ayurveda, sparking her to officially commence her Ayurvedic studies in 2006 with Coen van der Kroon.
As a therapist, Liese continues to explore her special interest in the deep links between Ayurveda and yoga and shares her wealth of knowledge through various workshops and courses including yoga teacher training courses. For Birthlight she teaches Ayurveda continuing development courses on Ayurveda for pregnancy, postpartum and menstruation.
As an Ayurveda Practitioner, Liese works with private clients using therapeutic Yoga principles combined with Ayurvedic therapies including nutrition, lifestyle and the use of medicinal herbs. As a valuable addition for digestive and pelvic health, Liese offers Mayan Abdominal massage.
Together with Coen van der Kroon, Liese teaches the Ayurvedic Healing & Yoga Therapy module at The Yoga Therapy Institute.
“I was lucky to meet Liese at a time when I needed her help as an Ayurvedic Therapist. I was suffering from an ovarian cyst and through her Ayurvedic treatment and careful advice, the cyst soon dissolved itself. This happened very much to the amazement of my own doctor. What I love about Liese is her compassion and genuine care. She has the rare quality of a true therapist. She connects with her clients and she explains even the most complex subjects in a simple and easy-to-digest way.”
