Montserrat G. Mukherjee C-IAYT
This course offers a special opportunity for students to learn directly from Montserrat G. Mukherjee C-IAYT and to benefit from her years of experience and passionate approach to health and Yoga Therapy.
Montserrat, C-IAYT Yoga Therapist, graduated from the Yoga Biomedical Trust & Yoga Campus 20 years ago, in a pioneer certification, founded by Dr. Robin Monro, which integrated medical studies with yoga.
Montserrat G. Mukherjee founded The Yoga Therapy Institute in February 2017. The first programme began with 5 students from The Netherlands and in 4 years, it has grown into an international school with a team of certified and experienced teachers and hundreds of students from all over the world. The Yoga Therapy Institute offers the first Yoga Therapy 850-hour Diploma in Europe, which is accredited by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). Pioneers in their field, The Yoga Therapy Institute adapted all their courses to online teaching, ensuring that they could continue their teacher training, despite the restrictions brought about by the Covid Pandemic.
“We were keeping an eye on the developments in China and we immediately decided to prepare in-depth online courses. We worked for 7 days (and nights), until we were satisfied with the level of the online education we were able to offer and we continue to update and perfect our courses, to this day”.
“I don’t think of The Yoga Therapy Institute as my school, but as a school that belongs to the whole team – all the people that make it possible every day. We are a family, working together as a team, without managers or hierarchies. I am allergic to internal politics and everyone knows that I am happy to be told what to do. Like everyone, I continue to embrace learning new skills. In fact, I need supervision from my colleagues and we often laugh, because they veto me from editing or making changes to the systems that they have worked so hard to implement!
This family includes the amazing students that join our courses, to whom we aim to offer a safe place for learning and self-development, whether online or in person. We know all our students and their stories, what inspires them and what troubles them, as we believe that this is important for their development as professional Yoga Therapists. Some of our senior students have already started to work at the school, as supervisors and teachers of the curriculum, supporting the newer students in their trajectory and in this way, The Yoga Therapy Institute family keeps on growing!
Based in Amsterdam, Montserrat has worked with hundreds of clients from around the world, suffering from a wide range of physical health issues. She applies Yoga Therapy as a complementary therapy to conventional medicine, including some of the following:
- Heart disease
- Degenerative diseases
- Cancer, with a special focus on women with breast cancer
- Herniated discs and lower back pain *trained in the CALBA method by Dr. Robin Monro
- Auto-immune disease
- Musculoskeletal injures
- Emotional mood disorders, such as anxiety and depression
- Women’s wellness issues
The effects of her work speak for themselves, as do her clients and students. They praise her friendly and down-to-earth professionalism, as well as her in-depth medical and human knowledge.
Montserrat dedicates her life to Yoga Therapy and the care for others. No one is excluded from her well-known ginger teas with honey and home-made snacks. She loves cooking and her home always smells of something delicious, which she loves to share!
Even when she is on holiday or on a teaching trip, her clients can contact her directly. “Health work is not exclusive to the 90 minutes at my studio. Of course, everyone feels at some point that they need help or guidance outside of ‘working hours’ and so, I like my students and clients to feel that there is a door open, whenever they need it.”
“Just like everyone else, I was not born with a life manual under my arm, I learn along the way and I do the best I can, every day.”
I am lucky to have grown up within a large, humble Spanish family and to have learned directly from the wisdom and warmth of the older members of our family. This heritage, added to the many difficulties and challenges experienced whilst travelling all over the world and the long journey from poverty to wealth and recognition in the international corporate world, have undoubtedly given me an understanding of the human condition.
MONTSERRAT & THE YOGA THERAPY INSTITUTE
Montserrat founded The Yoga Therapy Institute in February 2017, in Amsterdam.
“I love what I do, and I have a lot to be thankful for. I was blessed to learn from a pioneering Yoga Therapy diploma course in London, with a strong medical base. This gave me the solid foundation I needed to feel confident to work with clients, even those with the most difficult health conditions.
At The Yoga Therapy Institute, we follow the lines of study from all classic and modern traditions. We nurture a respect for others, daily practice, compassion and a sense of humour. Becoming a Yoga Therapist involves dedication and a life commitment, and I really believe that safety and respect form the core of this wonderful work.
At The Yoga Therapy Institute, we aim to offer Yoga Therapy Diploma Courses with the highest standards in the world.
My own personal mission? To educate and train professional and compassionate Yoga Therapists, who can make a real difference to people’s lives and their health.”
